World AIDS Day - December 1
World AIDS Day is observed every December 1st with calls on top leaders and citizens to maintain global solidarity against the effort to end AIDS and increase its social awareness. With over 38 million people living with HIV globally and another 1.7 million new cases reported last year, the challenges faced by such people are harder, more so during this COVID-19 pandemic.
The theme for the year 2020 is ‘Ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic: Resilience and Impact’.
Much needs to be done to address the breakdown in services during this pandemic and the increased threat posed to vulnerable people from HIV infections and AIDS-related death.
